Company News

True Grade recently joined the Better Food Future Immersive Field & Culinary Experience in Yucatán. The trip was more than a learning opportunity. It was a chance to see the seafood supply chain alive and working, from ocean to table.

For three days, we connected with every link in the chain:

  • Small-scale fishers
  • Cooperatives and local communities
  • Distributors and industry partners
  • Retail, cruise, and foodservice leaders

Each group brought unique strengths. Together, they created a powerful sense of unity.

One Table, Many Perspectives

The most memorable moments happened at shared meals. Fishers, distributors, co-ops, and brand leaders sat together as equals. Every voice was heard. Every perspective mattered.

This was collaboration in its purest form. Barriers faded, replaced by trust, shared stories, and the desire to support one another.

Collaboration at the table—diverse voices coming together to build trust and support one another.

Learning Through Immersion

We went fishing with local communities. We ate their food and joined in their daily lives. These experiences reminded us that sustainable seafood is not only about systems. It is about people.

Every handshake, every shared meal, and every boat trip showed us the human side of traceability. Seeing fishers’ dedication made the importance of responsible sourcing even clearer.

Spotlight on Leadership and Vision

One partner stood out throughout the journey. Matthew Simpson, along with Monarch and the Sovereign Seas brand, is leading the way.

Matt’s vision focuses on creating opportunities for local fishers while strengthening supply chains. His work spans retail, foodservice, and cruise. Yet it always keeps community at its center.

This balance of local impact and global reach is what True Grade values most. Matt’s leadership shows how collaboration can transform not just supply chains but also lives.

Building Trust and Shared Values

Thanks to Mark Kaplan and Wholechain for bringing this initiative to life and creating a space for collaboration. We are also grateful to advocates like Heike N., who continue to push for a greener future.

Most of all, we thank the fishers and their families. They reminded us that sustainable seafood begins with relationships and trust.

At True Grade, we believe collaboration builds resilience. This journey proved that when every stakeholder supports one another, the result is more than a supply chain. It is a community.
